cork flooring is it any good ?
want to get Flooring for kitchen and bathroom is cork any good for this and what is Cork Flooring anyway is it cheaper way to go or something ? any ideas on what to get
cork is a trend. so is bamboo. but they might catch on and attain mainstream status, who knows
there’s also a type of flooring called tarkett which is gaining in popularity
Cork is very porous, and would be an especially bad choice for a kitchen and bathroom.
Years ago it was used for big meeting rooms for it’s ability to be silent when walked on.
I can’t imagine it being a cheap way to go , and where would you get it?
The one place you can still see it is in the Grand Ballroom on the Queen Mary. When you take the tour you are told all the dents in the cork flooring is from womens high heel shoes. 8/23

I was considering this material recently for my kitchen (haven’t made a decision yet). What makes modern cork flooring suitable for a kitchen is the factory-applied finish. Along with that you get the cushioning that makes cork easier to stand on for long periods, compared to ceramic tile. So yes, I’d say it’s well worth considering but be sure to check manufacturer’s literature to make sure the product you’re considering is indeed suitable for a kitchen. The main downside, best as I can tell, is that it is fairly expensive but that will vary considerably by product and source.
Here’s a step by step explanation of how to install it:
